Travelling to Spain for the holidays has become something of a cliché and yet holidaymakers just carry on choosing Spain for short city breaks and extended rural or seaside stays. Why?
Of course, there is the sun factor, which is a huge draw, but there are other reasons why many visitors travel religiously to Spain year after year. Lazing on beaches on the Costa del Sol is something that most people dream of doing when they are shut in offices in dreary winter weather. There is a feeling of foreignness and freedom that attracts many. A slower pace of life applies in the Mediterranean countries, including restful siestas in the afternoon and endless sitting at café tables watching the passing parade. There are festivals and religious celebrations which give it a different, Latin air. The healthy cuisine, great wine and fine olive oil are also much appreciated by visitors.
Cost is another reason why people love Spain. With exception of some tourist trap areas, it is affordable to stay for extended periods in Spain. Indeed this is why so many people have chosen to invest in property in Spain, rather than rent a villa or get hotel accommodation.
Nonetheless, renting a villa seems to be almost synonymous with a Spanish holiday. If you can make up a sizeable group of family and friends then this is an affordable and practical option.
