Travel in the 21st Century

There was a time when travellers were people who explored uncharted territories and made logs of their experiences. Today, we use this kind of archival material to draw inferences about places and societies of the past. The world has become a small and densely connected place, and travel is accessible to a large chunk of the population.

People travel for all kinds of reasons including work. Many people travel on work and relocate in different places. With affordable overseas property for sale, many people relocate to enjoy a different lifestyle in their retirement.

What would have been an exotic experience once is now commonplace. That is not to say that no travel experiences can be exotic today, but that any kind of international travel was once considered to be an adventure!

We are currently in a travel boom period, with air travel hitting all time lows. Budget airlines have made international travel surprisingly cheap. Just like everything else in this global system, however, international travel is a system directly based on oil, and the effects of an oil crunch are bound to reflect on it sooner than later.
