We spent ages looking for a hotel in London this evening. I am the sort of person that is quite fussy over the sort of hotel I visit. I like to find the best deal, read around and do my research. But I’m also quite impatient.
I look for sites that include reviews so looked for a comparison type. The first good site I found was Expedia.co.uk, a travel agent for the best Hotels in London.
Hotels that stood out were me were the Radisson Edwardian New Province Wharf, Royal Horseguards and Park Plaza Riverbank. When I checked there were 935 hotels, a huge selection to choose from.
I am thinking of going for the Radisson. It has an average guest rating of 4.5 and is recommended by 96% of guests. Not far from Blackwall tube-station it should be pretty easy to get where I need to be.
A little bit of London hotel history: there weren’t many large hotels in London until the 19th century. Many of the first to be built were owned by the railway companies, such as The Midland Grand Hotel, the Great Western, The Great Northern, The Great Eastern, Charring Cross, The Great Central and The Grosvenor.
Later on in the Victorian period many more large hotels were built in London. The Langham Hotel was the largest in the city when it was built in 1865. This was followed by The Savoy in 1889, famous for an en-suite bathroom in every room. Nine years later Claridge’s was built, followed by the world famous Ritz Hotel.
