Goa is famous across the world as a major party destination. But there is much more to this little jewel on the western coast of India than just the party scene. Travellers from all over the world fall in love with it, some for its environmental richness and beauty, some for the laid back life, some for the delicious food and some for its friendly and warm people.
My sister was investigating houses for sale and property prices on the third day she was there. She now has a little holiday cottage near Palolim, a pristine village in the south of Goa. Twice every year during the turtle nesting season, she heads to Goa for a holiday and to volunteer with the local environmental group. Sounds like fun doesn't it?
The best season to travel to Goa would be November through to March. The monsoons are pretty hardcore, and often it becomes difficult to achieve much due to continuous heavy rain. Summers can be quite intense too, considering it is a tropical coastal state.
Goa is not all about beaches, as the eastern part of the state is home to dense forest. This forest is actually a biodiversity hotspot, and is a great region to explore.
Thousands of people visit Goa all year round, so tourism is a major industry here. There are plenty of beach shacks, hotels and motels in all popular villages. Many people hire mopeds to get around, and these are quite cheap. Recently however, the state traffic police have tightened the rules so it's important to have some kind of driving permit. International permits usually work here.
Goa is certainly more than just a party hotspot. Make sure you explore different aspects of this beautiful state before you plan your trip, to get the most out of your stay in Goa.
